What is the proper technique for recovering from driving off the edge of the pavement onto the shoulder?

1. Jerk the steering wheel sharply back onto the road
2. Ease off the accelerator, steer straight on the shoulder, slow down, then gently steer back onto the pavement when safe
3. Brake hard and turn back onto the road immediately
4. Accelerate to get back onto the road quickly
