In North Carolina CDL combination procedures, before pulling the tractor out from under a trailer during uncoupling, you must:

1. Honk the horn three times
2. Lower the landing gear and verify it supports the trailer weight
3. Disconnect only the blue glad-hand
4. Raise the fifth wheel to its highest position
