If the apparatus pump has been pumping for an extended period, the driver/operator should monitor the engine coolant temperature and:

1. Allow the temperature to climb until the engine shuts down automatically
2. Open the auxiliary pump cooler / engine cooler to circulate water through the heat exchanger
3. Disable warning systems to prevent shutdowns
4. Disengage the pump immediately at any temperature rise
