Employees may work in an excavation where water is accumulating only if:

1. They work faster so exposure time is short
2. Adequate precautions are taken to protect them, and a competent person monitors water-removal equipment when it is used
3. The trench is Type C, which is not affected by water
4. A hard hat is worn
